A major fire broke out at the offices of Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk on the outskirts of Copenhagen on Wednesday, according to the capital’s firefighters.
“This is a huge fire. We have about 100 firefighters on the scene,” fire chief Martin Smith told AFP news agency, adding that all people had been evacuated from the building, located in Bagsværde, in the northern part of the capital Copenhagen. .
The fire started in a container on the construction site and spread to the roof of a nearby office building, also owned by the company, Smith said.
Large clouds of gray smoke were visible 30 kilometers from the fire, Danish news agency Ritzau reported.
The fire comes less than a week after a May 16 fire at another Novo Nordisk site under construction in Kalundborg, which had no impact on drug production.
