The US Space Agency (NASA) is developing several prototype tests that will connect this country with the European continent in an hour and a half. Of the various projects, the most advanced will be the one already known from the “son of Concorde”, the production of which can be seen later this year. The supersonic plane was born out of a collaboration between NASA and manufacturer Lockheed Martin, and technicians are now studying how to eliminate the so-called “sonic booms” that occur when the plane hits the sound barrier. The most advanced prototype is the so-called X-95, which will fly at 1.4 times the speed of sound.
The project will represent the return of supersonic service between the two continents, which was canceled following the recall of the Concorde aircraft in October 2003. This aircraft, operated by British Airways and Air France, carried a maximum of 120 passengers and could cover a distance of approximately 2,200 km. ./hour (Mach 2.04). It was taken out of service after an accident caused by a part of the former Continental Airlines DC-10 detaching during takeoff of a French Concorde.
