Atalanta ended Leverkusen’s 51-game unbeaten streak and won the Europa League.

Italians Atalanta did something that hasn’t been done before (this season): they crushed the Germans from Leverkusen on Wednesday night. Thanks to this, Gasperini’s team won the Europa League.

The star of the match was Nigerian Ademola Lookman, who scored the only three goals of the match.

The 26-year-old striker’s hat-trick was unfortunate not only for Xabi Alonso’s team… but also for Benfica.

Because the “eagles” could already guarantee direct access to the Champions League this Wednesday if the Germans win.

In other words: by finishing second in the Portuguese league, Benfica guaranteed itself participation in the Champions League qualifying matches. However, under new UEFA rules, if Leverkusen win this final, they will qualify for the millionaire’s league as Europa League champions rather than as Bundesliga toppers. This place will be given to the team with the best odds in the Champions League – Benfica.
