Rui Costa addressed the Benfica market regarding the possible departures of Joao Neves and Antonio Silva and confirmed that he had activated the purchase clause for Carreras and hired Leandro Barreira.
“As for Joao and Antonio, there have been a lot of conversations, but nothing concrete yet that could cause concern. The market has not yet started to move. There is not a single Portuguese club that could survive without sales. We want to ensure as much financial security as possible so that as few players as possible leave,” he said, adding: “We need to sell enough to prepare for the season without risking or breaking UEFA’s financial fair play.”
The Eagles chairman has confirmed that the option clause allowing Carreras to continue with the team has been exercised with Manchester United. As for Leandro Barreiro (Mainz), he emphasized: “He is already from Benfica.” He is a very mobile, dynamic midfielder who complements the midfield. He’s very productive.”
