A 33-year-old man was arrested on Thursday by the Judicial Police (PJ) on suspicion of committing a crime related to drug trafficking in Walongo. The suspect was surprised by authorities when he received an illegal order by air from Brazil that contained about 4.5 kilograms of dimethyltryptamine, a powerful hallucinogen known around the world as “ayahuasca.”
According to PJ, the packaging, which was described as containing an organic food additive, aroused suspicion among customs authorities, who decided to report the facts.
After extensive testing, it was confirmed that the contents of the package were, in fact, dimethyltryptamine, a psychoactive extract extracted from the leaves of certain plants found primarily in Central and South America.
“In addition to this hallucinogen, other drugs were found in the suspect’s house, namely cannabis in herbal form and resin, as well as a small amount of cocaine intended for personal consumption,” the joint venture said in a statement.
The detainee will be present at the first interrogation to learn about coercive measures.
