The General Assembly to sum up the election results in Madeira plans to conclude its work in the late afternoon

The General Counting Assembly for Madeira’s legislative elections expects to complete its work “close to evening” this Tuesday, the National Electoral Commission (CNE) said, noting that it “does not have a decisive influence” on the results published on Sunday. .

“The representative of the republic began to conduct auditions before closing work [de apuramento geral]therefore, whatever the outcome of the meeting, no [altera a distribuição dos mandatos]”said João Almeida of CNE, speaking to reporters at the start of work, at 9 a.m., at the Palacio de São Lourenço, the official residence of the representative of the Republic in the autonomous region of Madeira, Ireneu Barreto, in Funchal.

Ireneu Barreto began today, at 10 am, to listen to the parties elected in the early regional elections on Sunday, from least to most voted, namely PAN, IL, CDS-PP, Chega, JPP, PS and PSD, given the “urgency of finding a solution government.”

In previous elections, party hearings by the representative of the Republic were held only after the completion of the General Vote Count.

Representing the CNE, João Almeida explained that the general count of elections represents “the completion of formalities to ensure truly reliable results and their subsequent publication,” which allows for the possibility of appealing them with a deadline of 24 hours for filing an appeal. after publication.

“Obviously, in general, this General Counting Assembly does not have a decisive influence, it has a decisive influence only if the difference in the results is small,” he also noted, explaining that today’s work involves the assessment of votes declared invalid according to various tables. , according to the same criteria, so that the decision is fair.

The final results, he said, “never coincide with the preliminary ones,” but only allow the distribution of 47 mandates to be changed if there is a difference of 10 or 20 votes between the candidates, which does not happen.

Regarding the duration of the work, João Almeida said that experience from previous processes shows that “by the end of the day they are already completed,” adding that “the volume is not very large.”

“There are situations when things take time, if there are complaints and protests. Now they are gone,” he emphasized.

The CNE representative recalled that the formation of a government requires the preliminary publication of the election results in the Diário da República (DR), which can only happen after the work of the General Assembly to tabulate the results and after the deadline for filing appeals has expired.

Given that Thursday is a day off, publication in the DR should take place “on Friday or Saturday,” so the new leader “may well be appointed next week.”

After PSD/Madeira leader Miguel Albuquerque said on Sunday that he was ready to provide a “government of stability,” the PS and JPP announced on Monday that they would present a “solution” to the representative of the Republic in Madeira. joint government” and will engage in dialogue with the other parties, with the exception of the SDP and Chega, “in order to secure stronger parliamentary support.”

The PSD/Madeira Political Committee will also meet today, with media statements scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The early elections in Madeira took place eight months after the last regional legislative elections, after the President of the Republic dissolved the Madeira parliament following a political crisis triggered in January when the leader of the regional government (PSD/CDU-PP), Miguel Albuquerque, was named as a defendant in the case on investigation of suspicions of corruption.

In the new composition, the regional parliament has 19 deputies from the SDP, 11 from the PS, nine from the PPP, four from Chegi, two from the SDS, one from the IL and one from the PAN. An absolute majority requires 24 seats.
