Tangier Correa accuses opponents of being ‘totally unprepared’

The head of Chegi’s list in the European Parliament elections accused his opponents this Wednesday of being “totally unprepared” to represent Portugal and justified his absence from the campaign by citing a dental emergency.

“I have noticed the complete lack of preparation of the heads of the parties represented in Parliament to represent Portugal at the international level,” he said, believing that “they do not know the minimum of what is fundamental to the defense of Portugal and the Portuguese people.”

When asked if he did not recognize the capacity of any of his opponents, the first candidate Chegi replied that “in principle, no.”

“The PS woman was the health minister and that’s how it was. Sebastian Bugallo is a good guy, I have nothing against him, but he was a political commentator for five years and never held any position. I’ve never seen anyone negotiate.” international agreement, negotiate at the international level, I have never seen anyone represent Portugal at the international level,” he said.

António Tangier Correa spoke to reporters during a visit to firefighters in Muran, Évora district.

“As dumb as I am, I have 40 years of international experience, so I know what I’m doing,” he stressed, accusing other candidates of “not knowing anything” about international affairs, “because of the content conversations and the non-international drift that everyone has.”

List leader Chegi also said that others are “afraid” to broach these topics: “When we talk about international issues, they become silent and keep their eyes wide open. They try to avoid me talking about international issues as much as possible.”

Tangier Correa was not present at the dinner/meeting in the Algarve on Tuesday evening, as she was in Lisbon participating in the RTP debate between the heads of the list of parties with parliamentary representation, and this Wednesday at the end of the morning she was also not on the street in Beja.

However, Chegi’s campaign continued and the party leader became a central figure.

The former ambassador explained his absence on Wednesday as a problem with his teeth.

Regarding the election campaign, first candidate Chegi said that he is “not on the list of participants in the election campaign, but on the list that will represent Portugal in Brussels after June 9.”

“It is clear that the Portuguese need to campaign. Who is best able to run the campaign? This is Dr. Andre Ventura,” he noted.

Tangier said that “from a media perspective” he was “fighting former ministers, former party presidents, political commentators, etc., who have high media credibility.”

“My profile in the media, well, it’s low. What is the problem that I am campaigning with the party president?” he asked.

The candidate said he feels comfortable campaigning alone, but he may “not be able to achieve expected goals alone.”

The candidate also said he would take part in a radio debate scheduled for Monday, contrary to a statement conveyed by the party to some media outlets.

Regarding the European political group that Chega will join, the head of the list said that “in international politics there is no black and white, there is grey.”

Asked about the lack of definition and why the issue was not being fleshed out more, he asked the Portuguese to trust the party’s decision, denying that the issue was important to voters.

“The Portuguese who vote for Chegu must trust Chegu at all levels,” he said.

Tangier Correa refused to ask for carte blanche, arguing that it was a “technical formality” and said it “may be” a “gray check.”

Regarding the possibility of forming a new political family, he replied that “this is a matter of common sense.”
