The President of the Republic said this Saturday that he sees no reason to intervene, given the scenario created after the regional elections in Madeira and the announcement of the PS that it will vote against the vote of confidence and the program of the regional government.

“I don’t see that at the moment, after what the representative of the republic said. [para a Madeira]”, the hypothesis that the scenario that he said the parties said they would create will not happen,” Marcelo Rebelo de Souza commented to journalists who asked him about the possibility of intervention following the results of regional elections held last year year. For the head of state, speaking on the sidelines of the Children’s Day initiative celebrated at the Belém Palace by the Museum of the Republic and the Portuguese Olympic and Paralympic Committees, the representative of the Republic, Ireneu Barreto, “decided to form a government on a certain basis, citing in particular the fact that he had a majority for in order for the government program to become viable, and then the region’s budget to become viable,” noting that “it was the free choice of the only one who is competent to make decisions.” .

In this sense, he emphasized that Ireneu Barreto “declared that the government’s program and budget are, in principle, guaranteed to be viable.”

The representative of the Republic of Madeira on Wednesday appointed Miguel Albuquerque (PSD) as president of the regional government, considering that the joint decision of the PS and JPP “has no chance of success.”

PS Madeira announced this Saturday that it will vote against the vote of confidence and the program of the regional government of the PSD, the party that won Sunday’s elections with 19 elected, without an absolute majority, and concluded an agreement for parliamentary protection with the PSD. PP.

“We are going to vote against the government program, vote against this vote of confidence,” said regional PS leader Paulo Cafofo, stressing that it is important that “other parties can decide whether they want it or not. change” in the region.

The PS retained the parliamentary group with 11 seats, while the JPP increased its membership from five to nine members. Chega continues to hold four seats, SDS-NP lost one, now having two representatives, and IL and PAN re-elected their only deputies.

The president of the regional government of Madeira, social democrat Miguel Albuquerque, will hand over the executive branch to the representative of the republic on Tuesday.

The Legislative Assembly and regional government will take office on Thursday, June 6.

Madeira’s early elections came eight months after previous regional elections, after the president of the republic dissolved Madeira’s parliament following a political crisis triggered in January by the indictment of Albuquerque.
