The Eucharistic Congress proposes that the church open its hours according to the “rhythm of today” and open up access to digital technologies.

According to the Portuguese Episcopal Conference (CEP), the 5th National Eucharistic Congress, which ended this Sunday in Braga, proposed, among other ideas, adapting church schedules to “the rhythm of today’s world” and “Christian spirituality to the digital environment.”

“The opening hours of churches must be adapted to the rhythm of today’s world, seeking to stimulate moments of private prayer and to involve the laity, the confraternities of the Blessed Sacrament, catechists and other pastoral figures in stimulating moments of public Eucharistic adoration,” he says. a CEP document that consolidates the conclusions of the congress.

The three-day meeting also resulted in the idea that it is necessary to “seek a balance between tradition and the need to introduce new languages into the liturgy,” creating measures to integrate youth “in this process of renewal and adaptation of Christian spirituality in a digital environment and a secularized world.”

Noting that “the Eucharist calls everyone together, is open to everyone and alienates no one,” the CUP argues that the Eucharist should be expressed outside the church, “through real responses to the concrete needs of people.”

From Friday to this Sunday, the V National Eucharistic Congress (CEN) took place in Braga on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its first meeting.

On the topic “Distributing bread, feeding hope. “They recognized Him by breaking bread.” The meeting was attended by about 1,400 participants, four cardinals and 30 bishops, and all Portuguese dioceses were represented, according to the final document of the congress. .

In the closing speech of the V National Eucharistic Congress, for which he was the special envoy of Pope Francis, Dr. José Tolentino de Mendonça emphasized this Sunday morning that the Church in Portugal “is called to be a Eucharistic Church”, that is, that it “does not put itself first” and “who values the participation of all the baptized, who recognizes the role of ordained ministry, who cares for and cherishes her shepherds” and who “reads prophetically the place of women in the church.”

“The Eucharistic Church is an open-door Church, which represents an experience of loving service to life rather than the rigidity of exclusionary judgments,” emphasized the Prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education of the Holy See. , in a speech to which Luz’s agency had access.
