The pilot, who received minor injuries this Sunday in a plane crash that occurred at the Beja AirShow festival, has already been discharged from the hospital, a source at the local health unit of Baixo Alentejo (ULSBA) told Lusa.
The same source told Lusa that the 37-year-old man was discharged at around 9:30 pm from the José Joaquim Fernandez Hospital in Beja, where he had been taken for medical observation.
In addition to the Portuguese injured, the incident, which occurred at 4:05 p.m. during the Beja AirShow at Air Base 11, also killed a Spanish man whose age sources contacted by Lusa were unable to provide.
Both pilots belong to the Yakstars Iberian Patrol, an aerobatic team made up of Portuguese and Spanish nationalities.
According to the Air Force, the injured man “received emergency treatment” after the accident, was “evaluated by military and civilian medical teams present at the event” and was taken to the hospital “as a precaution.”
The accident involving two aircraft occurred during an aerial demonstration of the Yakstars patrol as part of the Beja AirShow festival, held at Air Base No. 11 in Beja and organized by this branch of the Armed Forces.
According to the Air Force, one of the planes involved in the accident crashed “outside the air base perimeter, while the other landed in the unit.”
“As a result of these incidents, there were no casualties on the ground among the people watching what was happening nearby,” he emphasized.
The Air Force also noted that it had deployed “all means to investigate the incident” and that the event was immediately interrupted due to the incident.
