Brazil accounts for 82% of all dengue cases recorded on the planet and more than 77% of deaths caused by the disease. The information was provided this Monday in a new global report on the disease published by WHO (World Health Organization).

Of the 7.67 million probable cases of dengue officially reported worldwide, Brazil alone accounts for 6.3 million cases, according to WHO. In terms of actual confirmed cases, which the WHO reported at 3.57 million, Brazil again accounts for 3.04 million.

The country, which is experiencing the worst dengue epidemic in its history while Lula da Silva’s government continues to insist it is just a severe outbreak but localized in some states, also leads in the number of most serious infections and deaths . Of the 16,242 infections of the most serious type confirmed by WHO worldwide, Brazil accounts for 82.3% of cases and accounts for 77.3% of the 3,680 deaths proven to be caused by dengue fever worldwide.

To give you an idea of the seriousness of the health situation in Brazil, the numbers recorded by the Ministry of Health this year up to May 25 were many times higher than for the whole of 2023, which already saw a strong increase in cases in the country. Until May 25, Brazil recorded an alarming 328.6% increase in infections compared to the same period last year and an even more alarming 251.1% increase in deaths.
