Prices for liquefied gas in cylinders in January are 8-10% higher than ERSE estimates

Bottled LPG prices announced by operators in January were 8-10% higher than the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE) estimate, according to the Monthly Bottled LPG Price Surveillance Report released this Wednesday.

According to a bottled liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) price report, the regulator confirmed in January that “in a G26 propane [11 quilogramas (kg)] a difference of 8.4%, which means that the advertised price is higher than the actual price by 2600 euros per cylinder”, “in a G110 propane tank. [45 kg] a difference of 8.9%, which represents a declared price higher than the actual price of 9,886 euros per bottle” and “G26 bottled butane”. [13 kg] a difference of 9.8%, which represents the advertised price above the actual price of 3.054 euros per bottle.”

ERSE estimates that in January the average monthly price (effective price) of bottled LPG decreased by 2.75% for a G26 propane bottle, by 3.12% for a G110 gas bottle and by 4.69% for a G26 butane bottle. compared to December in line with international prices.

Reflecting the “declining trajectory of global market prices, the effective prices are €28.21 per G26 propane tank, representing a 2.75% decrease from the effective price in December; €101.30 for a G110 propane tank, representing a reduction of 3.12%. compared to the December effective price; €28.18 per bottle of G26 butane, down 4.69% from the December effective price,” ERSE reported on January 19.

In November and December, the regulator has already seen prices higher than its estimate, after intervention in the market, which set maximum prices for T3 and T5 types of propane and butane cylinders between August 15 and October 30.

“In September and October, published prices matched real prices as a result of regulatory intervention in the market,” notes ERSE.

In mid-August, the government once again set maximum prices for bottled gas, as it had already done during the covid-19 pandemic, while ERSE indicated that there were structural problems in the market when prices did not correspond to international quotations. justify setting the maximum values.

The government could set price ceilings again if the regulator reports margin abuse by operators.

As for February, reflecting the “price trend in the international market”, the regulator estimates that the average monthly price (effective price) for LPG in cylinders will be 29.40 euros per cylinder of G26 propane, which represents an increase of 4.20 % compared to the effective price. The January price for a G110 propane bottle was €106.136, an increase of 4.77%, and €29.03 for a G26 butane bottle, an increase of 3.01%.
