The head of the AD list for Europeans said today he would have “expected more humility” from the PS secretary general regarding the migration action plan because he “was part of the government that created” and did not solve the problem.
At the end of a visit to the Pedro Nunes Institute in Coimbra, Sebastian Bugallo was asked about Pedro Nuno Santos’ criticism of the content and form of the plan presented on Monday by the government, in which he accused the head of the PSD/CDS-PP of governing “as if there was no opposition.”
“Number one” on the AD list began by asking whether the Socialist leader was “in favor of a settlement for the situation of 400,000 migrants.”
“I hope that Dr. Pedro Nuno Santos, as leader of the opposition, will be on the side of protecting immigrants from human trafficking networks, that he will be on the side of legalizing half a million people who are in a limbo that leaves them without protection,” said Sebastian Bugallo .
The candidate for the European Parliament considered that this was a problem that “the PS could not solve during nine years of rule.”
“I would have expected more humility from someone who was part of the government that created the problem,” he said.
Bugalho was also asked about and responded to accusations of electoralism from opposition parties as the government unveiled several packages during the European campaign.
“Should we wait until the political parties find it convenient to resolve the dramatic situation in which 400,000 people find themselves?” he asked.
And he added: “I don’t think we could wait another day, we just have to regret every day that the problem was not solved, this is not the day it started to be solved,” he said, stating that today should be “a good day for the Portuguese and for Europe.”
