The National Medicines Authority (Infarmed) has authorized the use of Asacol, labeled in Spanish, due to the depletion of supplies of the drug, used to treat inflammatory bowel disease.
“Given that the drug Asacol is not available, Infarmed has exceptionally authorized the use of Asacol, a gastro-resistant 800 mg tablet,” the health authority said in a computer circular published on the website.
According to Infarmed, these packages will be accompanied by an information booklet in Portuguese.
“To facilitate access to the medicine, the NHS registration number, price and reimbursement in this presentation will be the same as the medicine authorized in Portugal, so prescribing and dispensing can occur as usual,” he adds.
