The woman who claims to have inspired the character Martha Scott in the TV series “Fawn” presented this Thursday in court in California, USA, lawsuit against streaming service Netflix. In the suit, Fiona Harvey is seeking more than €156 million for various damages.
“Little Fawn” got people talking on and off screen. The Netflix series, released this year, starring 35-year-old Richard Gadd, highlights the persecution the Scottish actor endured. Fiona identified with the character she was pursuing Richard, but refused the role of stalker.
Complaint published by the magazine Diversity, puts Netflix in the defendant’s shoes. The platform is accused of defamation, fraudulent solicitation, emotional distress, gross negligence and violation of the right of publicity. The lawsuit states that “Netflix did nothing to confirm the veracity of this story” which resulted in “Harvey’s life being ruined.”
To a British newspaper “The keeper”A spokesperson for the streaming platform said it was “committed to protecting Richard Gadd’s right to tell his story.” The lead actor said that at times he made “slight adjustments” [o conteúdo] to create dramatic climaxes.”
The platform estimates that the series will be among the top ten, as 60 million people watched it in the first month of broadcast.
