Prisoners go on hunger strike against procedural delays and instability in Venezuelan prisons

Hundreds of prisoners from several Venezuelan prisons began a hunger strike on Sunday to protest procedural delays and dangerous conditions, even as authorities say their human rights are guaranteed.

“Prisoners across the country have announced that starting today they will join a peaceful hunger strike to demand timely updating of their accounts. [cálculos de tempos de detenção]granting humanitarian measures, transfers to prisons of origin, among other petitions,” announced the Venezuelan Prison Observatory (OVP) on its X account, formerly Twitter.

On the same social network, OVP published videos of prisoners from several prisons, including Uribana, Aragua, Tocuyito and Cumana, singing the Venezuelan anthem to protest alleged human rights violations.
