This afternoon Benfica informed the CMVM of the dismissal of Luis Mendes.
According to CMThe administrator’s main disagreement concerns Luis Mendez’s “jealousy” of the growing influence of Nuno Costa, advisor and secretary of Rui Costa.
Nuno Costa arrived at Benfica a few years ago through Luis Filipe Vieira. The former president followed him to the Chamber of Oeiras, where he was chief of staff to Isaltino Morais and then to Paulo Vistas.

“Sport Lisboa e Benfica – Futebol, SAD” (“Benfica SAD”) announces, in accordance with the terms and for the purposes of the provisions of Article 6, paragraph a), No. 1 of CMVM Regulation No. 1/2023, that its Executive Director, Director Luiz Paulo da Silva On June 12, 2024, Mendes submitted his resignation from the position of vice-president of the board of directors of Benfica SAD. This resignation takes effect in accordance with the conditions provided by law.”
