The national football team has already landed at Munster-Osnabrück Airport in Germany. The Portuguese players will play their first game on Tuesday 18th against the Czech Republic in Leipzig.
The plane carrying the Portuguese delegation that will participate in Euro 2024 from Lisbon landed at 19:25 local time (18:25 Lisbon time).
The 26 players, called up by the Portuguese coach, Spaniard Roberto Martinez, and the rest of the staff now travel by bus to Marienfeld, which 18 years later again becomes Portugal’s “general headquarters”, repeating what happened at the 2006 World Cup.
Portuguese football team ‘captain’ Cristiano Ronaldo, 39, became the first Portuguese player to set foot on German soil, followed by others selected for the competition, which begins on Friday with the Germany-Scotland match in Munich.
Some 2,000 fans of the Portuguese football team were already present two hours before arrival at the complex where the team will be based during Euro 2024, with plenty of Ronaldos and sardines waiting for them.
The small and peaceful village of Marienfeld in Germany was full of ‘life’, with many people of all ages wearing national team jerseys, most of them with Ronaldo’s number ‘7’, as well as a few flags and allusions. Portuguese culture, as well as a folk group from the Gütersloh area.
