Now is now: the new channel Medialivre will soon appear on Portuguese television

A new channel of “clean and accurate” information with news broadcasts every 15 minutes, for a demanding audience, with rigor and summary, with a very specific focus on Europe – on what is the national interest. This is the profile of Medialivre’s new TV project, the News Now channel, which next Monday will take the 9th place in popularity among Portuguese viewers by storm and promises to revolutionize the way they consume news.

To welcome them, Now will have a luxury cast of renowned journalists: Patricia Matos (formerly of TVI), Marisa Caetano Antunes (coming from SIC), Eduarda Pires (TV Record), Mario Carneiro (RTP), Jose Pedro Fernandes (Porto Canal), Pedro Mourinho and Janete Frasan, who joined from CMTV.

A huge team led by Paulo Oliveira Lima, which includes other names with letters indicated in the “profession”, such as Ines Rodriguez (coordinator), Rodrigo Guimarães, Deborah Couceiro, Vania Mateus, Anabela Benedita, Bruna Cardoso, Sofia Diaz, Madalena . Sales, Enrique Ferreira and others who, from the newsroom or on the ground, contributed to updating the most important news every 15 minutes.

Main characters
But the main news is the participation of the relevant individuals in the national society. “They are not commentators, they are the protagonists, and it is these individuals who will be at the center of the action,” explained Medialivre CEO Luis Santana during the official presentation of the project at the end of May. “The commentator speaks volumes,” here the focus is “on what a person’s knowledge is, his experience, how a person sees reality, very focused on what his own personality is,” he summarizes.

So, on Mondays, Pedro Santana Lopez will host a program called “Perception and Reality” on the antenna. On Tuesdays, it will be the turn of Judith Sousa and Luis Paixan Martins to conduct an interview entitled “Protagonists”.

Following him is Rui Rio, the former leader of the PSD, who will take over the Now studio on Wednesdays, promising to discuss issues related to populism in a “rational” way. Deputy and former Finance Minister Fernando Medina presents the financial explainer “Contas Certas” on Thursdays, and the Bishop of Setubal D. Américo Aguiar appears online on Fridays.

On Saturday it will be the turn of the investigation in the program “Reporter Sabado”. Sunday is reserved for “The Optimists”, a new program written by former Prime Minister António Costa that will showcase the country’s best examples. This cast of protagonists is also joined by PSD parliamentary leader Hugo Soares, former director general of health in Graça. Freitas, who will address topics and concepts related to health, and Bar Association President Fernanda de Almeida Pinheiro. The latter’s mission will be to “explain things as they are and debunk some misconceptions” in the justice field.

These protagonists will also be part of the channel’s new management advisory body. It’s called the State Council, and here they will take on the role of senators with the main goal of helping the channel respond to current events. Carlos Rodríguez, director general of Medialivre’s editorial board, justifies this strategy on the importance of “communication between professions”, saying that this advisory body, a self-regulatory initiative, will bring “innovation and fresh ideas”.

It will also now facilitate several political face-to-face meetings. On the first Monday, the day of the channel’s launch, Rita Mathias from Chega and Bruno Gonçalves from PS will meet face to face in this privileged space to discuss topics related to current political events. The next day, Tuesday, an exchange of ideas takes place between Joana Mortagua of the Bloc de Esquerda and Andre Coelho Lima of the PSD. On the 19th, it will be the turn of Pedro Anastasio of the PS and Mariana Leitão of the Liberal Initiative to meet in the Now studio to educate viewers and show them what is at stake when making decisions that shape people’s lives. The Portuguese and the country will now also have a website and be present on social networks.

In the sports segment, Record’s cooperation is no less decisive for the success of the new channel. The Record is the leading sports newspaper in Portugal and will look to help Now, a brand that promises to make a difference in the national audiovisual market with its authority, know-how and quality journalism. in sports to guarantee the best news,” begins the story of Boa Onda Bernardo Ribeiro, Director of Record and Deputy General Director of the CM Editorial Board. “People will know that what they are seeing is the truth and not just guesswork or guesswork from someone who doesn’t really know what they’re talking about,” he adds.
