The man’s body, which was kept in the cold for more than seven months at the da Horta hospital in the Azores, will be buried this Friday, a source from the hospital ward said on Thursday.
According to the Public Relations Department of the da Horta Hospital, the Ministry of Public Relations has already given permission for the burial of a man who was found dead in his house on Faial Island on June 30, 2022, despite the fact that, however, no one from family members did not pick up the body.
An autopsy on the body in question was carried out on July 7, 2022, by order of the State Ministry, to try to establish the cause of death, but the case dragged on over time, and no one gave the order to bury the body.
Given that the whereabouts of the immediate family members are unknown, the person concerned will have a “solidarity funeral” funded by the Institute of Social Security of the Azores (ISSA), the organization responsible for covering the costs in such situations.
That funeral comes just four days after Lusa denounced the supposedly unusual situation on Monday.
It should be recalled that the body of this middle-aged man was stored for a long time in a refrigerated container near the da Horta hospital due to a malfunction of the refrigeration chambers of this infirmary.
