Firefighters in Salto, in Montalegri, carry out a rescue operation for a foreign citizen who fell while walking in a “very inaccessible area” of the Peneda-Gerês National Park.
Corporation Commander Hernani Carvalho explained that the operatives were on foot to the scene in the Kertelu area, Cabril district, and that the journey took more than an hour.
“It is in a very inaccessible place, with rock outcrops and very steep slopes, and progress towards the site is very slow,” he said.
Hernani Carvalho also said that the man was walking alone through the Peneda Geres National Park in the Vila Real area and that he was injured during the fall.
The alarm signal was received at 16:52, and, according to the commander, the victim is in touch by mobile phone.
The operation involves 10 firefighters from Salto, who are supported by three cars.
