This Friday, the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) requested a sentence of at least 18 years in prison for the young woman accused of killing a teenager in 2023 near a nightclub in Albufeira, in the Algarve.
In the closing arguments of the trial in Portimão’s Faro district court, the MP’s prosecutor said the hearing had proven that 22-year-old Mariana Carrillo “acted with the intention of harassing” Nuria Gomes, aged 19, “using a razor that I had with yourself.”
The facts date back to April 2023, when two young women got into a fight outside a nightspot in the city of Albufeira, and Nuria Gomes was stabbed and died shortly after.
Mariana Carrillo is charged with qualified murder, and her boyfriend at the time of the events, Jose Miguel Oliveira, 21, is responsible for crimes of injury to qualified physical integrity and personal favoritism for allegedly trying to get rid of the White Gun.
Disagreements arose within the establishment and after leaving the two young women became involved in a physical confrontation.
According to the deputy, the defendant, while wielding a knife, as she admitted to the court, “did not convince herself that she was doing it for protection, but with the intention of hitting the victim.”
The prosecutor also considered that the prosecution’s claims for crimes committed by defendant Jose Oliveira were proven.
The defendants’ lawyers asked for their acquittal “because there are many doubts” about who was responsible for the stabbing that led to the death of the young woman, “since no one saw either the attack or the knife in the defendant’s hand.”
Mariana Carrillo’s lawyer said that “neither the witnesses nor the CCTV images presented in court were informative and did not show the defendant stabbing the victim.”
“Since so many doubts remain, the accused must be acquitted,” he said.
Mariana Carrillo admitted at the first hearing that she carried a knife given to her by her then-boyfriend, who was “always armed”, so that she would not be noticed when entering the club.
The defendant explained that she took the knife inside the club under her armpit, and then put it in her suitcase and again left with it under her armpit, “to protect herself from threats coming to her inside the club and to scare the victim.”
Mariana Carrillo said she had little memory of what happened because she had consumed cocaine and several shots of whiskey, and “due to the confusion” that occurred at the scene.
At the hearing, the two defendants explained to the court that they then left the scene of the attack on foot while Jose Oliveira “tried to get rid of the knife.” Both were soon detained by the People’s Republic of Poland.
José Oliveira also said that “he had a knife in his hand when Nuria fell, and everyone at the scene said he was the one who stabbed the young woman.”
The announcement of the decision was scheduled for June 28 at 14.00.
