The Basque institutions have agreed to establish a 2% deflation in personal income tax for 2023, a measure that is added to the 5.5% deflation applied this year in this tax in order to minimize the impact of inflation on taxpayers. In addition, it has been decided to extend until 2023 the deduction of 200 euros for tax bases less than 30,000 euros.
The measure has been agreed this Friday by the Basque Government, the provincial councils and the Association of Basque Municipalities-Eudel within the Basque Council of Public Finances.
The Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, already advanced this measure at the General Policy plenary session of the Basque Parliament held on September 22.
Deflation, whose approval must be carried out at the General Assemblies of Bizkaia, Álava and Gipuzkoa, consists of adjusting the personal income tax rate to prevent taxpayers whose salaries have increased due to inflation from ending up paying more taxes.
The 2% deflation will be applied to the rate and IRPF deductions. In addition, the CVFP has extended until 2023 the deduction of 200 euros for tax bases of less than 30,000 euros, and a gradual reduction of the same for tax bases between 30,000 and 35,000 euros.
