The government will submit a set of anti-corruption measures to the Council of Ministers next Thursday, the 20th, the leader of the IL parliament said on Tuesday after a meeting with the Minister of Justice.
“The document will also be discussed in the Council of Ministers this Thursday and, therefore, only after this discussion will the final document be available to us for analysis. It could be seen that some of our proposals were accepted,” said MP Mariana. Leitão in statements to journalists in Parliament after meeting with the Minister of Justice in the Assembly of the Republic.
The Liberal parliamentary leader was reluctant to reveal details of which of her party’s measures had been adopted by the government, adding that they would reserve those comments until the document was finalized and the party had access to the final version.
Mariana Leitan, however, said, like Chega, that the government will move forward in regulating lobbying, something that IL has already proposed in parliament.
“This is something that we have already proposed several times in the AP, and it was also an issue that we presented again to the Minister of Justice in April, and which I think is an important issue that corresponds to what we consider necessary (… ) as something that prevents corruption,” he said.
The deputy also said that issues related to the BASE portal were also considered, related to facilitating “wider access” for all citizens “to information that should be public and available for review.”
“We expect that, obviously, these issues will be resolved there,” he said, referring to the set of anti-corruption proposals that will be discussed at the Council of Ministers.
The Minister of Justice is again in the Assembly of the Republic, listening to parties with seats in Parliament about the promised anti-corruption program, which she said was in its “very final stages” at the end of May.
On April 3, at the first meeting of the Council of Ministers, the government led by Luis Montenegro decided, as a first measure, to instruct the Minister of Justice, Rita Alarcão Judice, to talk to all parties with seats in Parliament, agents of the justice sector and civil society. in order to develop a package of measures to combat corruption – within 60 days.
On May 28, on the sidelines of her first parliamentary hearing, the minister told Lusa that the work was almost complete.
“We have listened to many people, many organizations, we have also received some written submissions and we are in the final stages of developing an anti-corruption program,” he said.
