A 31-year-old man suspected of committing robbery by robbery in the town of Ponta Delgada on the island of São Miguel in the Azores was arrested and placed in preventive detention, the PSP said on Tuesday.
The suspect was arrested for a “flagrant crime” over the weekend by agents from the Ponta Delgada police station, according to the Azores Regional Directorate of Public Security Police (PSP).
The man is “seriously charged” with committing a robbery that occurred in the parish of San Pedro in Ponta Delgada, PSP adds.
“Upon the news of this robbery incident, police officers assigned to the patrol car of the Ponta Delgada police station immediately went to the scene of the incident, which made it possible to quickly intercept the suspect, as well as recover the amount of currency that was stolen and taken away a minute ago,” the statement reads. note.
Also according to PSP, officers assisted the victim of the alleged robbery by stretching her, who was “somewhat weakened, taking into account not only what had happened, but also her greater vulnerability due to her advanced age.”
“Despite the need for transportation to [uma] hospital unit, it must be emphasized that the victim of this crime did not have any serious injuries or injuries,” adds the PSP.
The detainee was brought to the judicial authorities for the first judicial interrogation and he was assigned preventive detention – “the most serious coercive measure depriving him of his freedom.”
In the note, the PSP calls on the public to “immediately report incidents of this nature to ensure effective and timely police action and thus guarantee safety, tranquility and public order.”
