This Wednesday, the European Commission congratulated Portugal for no longer recording macroeconomic imbalances due to improvements in its fiscal structure that have led to surpluses that are “not very frequent”, but called for the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
“We congratulate Portugal on its economic performance in terms of eliminating imbalances and, in fact, we have concluded that Portugal no longer has imbalances and this is due, but not only, to very good fiscal performance,” said the vice president . Executive President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis.
At a press conference in Brussels on the day the institution published the spring package for the European semester, the official noted that “Portugal is recording a budget surplus, which does not happen often, and a debt-to-GDP ratio [Produto Interno Bruto] is rapidly declining.”
