Summer begins this Thursday with very cloudy weather, with light showers and below average temperatures for the season, between 17 and 26 degrees, but on Friday the weather will change, according to meteorologist Alessandro Marraccini.
“Today, the 20th, will be the last day with any disruption in precipitation. In general, scattered and light showers are expected in the southern region, but this is unlikely in the Algarve,” said a meteorologist from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea. and atmosphere (IPMA).
The northern quadrant is also expected to experience light to moderate winds, sometimes strong in the highlands, and temperatures below average for this time of year, Alessandro Marraccini said.
“From tomorrow, June 21, most of the country will experience no rainfall, little cloud or clear skies, and temperatures will begin to gradually rise, especially maximum temperatures, until Sunday. After this they will remain stable and with more typical values. for the summer,” he said.
Maximum temperatures for today are expected to range from 17 degrees Celsius in Guarda to 26 in Faro, with a slight rise recorded on Friday of 30 degrees in Beja, 29 in Évora and 28 in Castelo Branco.
On Saturday the maximum temperature will be 34 degrees in Beja and 32 in Castelo Branco and Évora.
“Up to this day [as temperaturas] were below average. For example, today in Lisbon the high should be around 30 degrees, but the forecast temperature is 22/23 degrees, which is significantly lower. Tomorrow [sexta-feira] the high will be around 24/25 and on Saturday it will approach 30 degrees, the temperature for this time of year,” he said.
The summer solstice begins today at 20:51 (Lisbon time) and ends on September 22 with the arrival of autumn.
