SDP accuses PS of seeking to rewrite the history of the last 60 days of parliament

The parliamentary leader of the PSD this Thursday accused the PS of seeking to rewrite the history of what happened in the Assembly of the Republic over the past two months and complained about the “blocking” of government action by the Socialists and Chegi.

These positions were outlined by Hugo Soares at the end of a meeting of the PSD parliamentary group and were mainly directed at the statements of the vice-president of the socialist party, António Mendonça Mendes.

“An attempt is being made to rewrite the history of the last 60 days of parliamentary activity: António Mendonça Mendes accuses the government of war with parliament and suggests that it is the government that wants to provoke early elections. If not for this, it would be absolutely ridiculous that the deputy is covering [Mendonça Mendes] And his statements about what happened over the past two months were a reason to say that the PS is really not standing on its feet,” said the chairman of the SDP parliamentary group.

On the contrary, according to Hugo Soares, in the last 60 days, “the Portuguese know that the government has done everything to solve the problems of the people and that the PS party, concerned about the European elections, even accused the executive of being too harsh.” fast” .

“The Portuguese know that in Parliament, in terms of parliamentary activities and legislative initiatives of the government, there is a blockade by the PS and Chegi. For the PS to say that it is the government that is waging war on the parliament is almost equivalent to saying that it was Ukraine that invaded Russia,” he added.

When asked about the alleged excessive use of decrees and legislative powers by the current government, the parliamentary leader of the SDP replied that this practice was also followed by the leaders of the Socialist Party, even in situations of absolute majority.

“The government’s legislative initiative powers are enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic. This government is doing no more than others,” he said.

Regarding the use of legislative powers by the executive, Hugo Soares considered it “extraordinary that the PS” raises this issue.

“The previous government, even with an absolute majority in parliament, constantly repeated legislative powers. The Portuguese are of little interest in this discussion,” he added.
