Over the weekend, traffic will be restricted on the arteries adjacent to the territory of Lisbon’s Tagus Park due to the Rock In Rio, event organizers announced this Friday.
A Rock In Rio source said in a statement that “to ensure traffic flows as smoothly as possible, restrictions will be introduced in the area around Tagus Park, coordinated locally by police officers.”
“During the event days, everyone’s cooperation is needed to avoid illegal parking in the Tagus Park area, risking fines and towing,” the organization warns.
According to the same source, on Saturday and Sunday there will be restrictions on roads such as the Additional Route 2 (IC2), at the entrance to the roundabout of the Republic of Colombia, at the roundabout at Avenida Dom Juan II and Avenida da Peregrinação, at Praça Plaza. do Venturoso, at the Vice Reis roundabout, on the roads near Gare do Oriente station and on the central axis of Avenida Dom Joao II.
Restrictions previously imposed on Via do Oriente, Passeio dos Heróis do Mar and the roundabout between Rua Domingos José de Morais and Rua Roald Amundsen and Rua da Cotovia will also be maintained.
The GIRA stations near Pingo Doce – Parque das Nações Norte and Colégio Pedro Arrupe will also be switched off, leaving only the GIRA station 113 – Parque das Nações (between Rua das Vigias and Passeio do Levante) open.
“Access will be guaranteed to residents and shop owners, provided they are accompanied by proof of residence,” it can also be read.
The organization also states that “the preferred pick-up and drop-off point for passengers at TVDE will be within the jurisdictional area of the Municipality of Loures, at the approach to the pedestrian bridge over the Trancao River,” “duly coordinated by the police authority present on site.”
It is therefore recommended to avoid driving in the vicinity of the Tagus Park, parking in unauthorized areas and giving preference to public parking nearby.

Lisbon’s Metropolitano also announced it would extend service on the Red and Green lines on Saturday and Sunday evenings until 2:30 a.m. due to Rock in Rio.
Thus, as last weekend, all stations on the Red Line (Airport – San Sebastian) will be open, with the exception of the stations in Olayas, Bela Vista and Encarnazan.
On the green line (Telheiras – Cais do Sodre), the stations will be Alameda, Cais do Sodre, Areiro, Campo Grande and Teleiras.
The movement will be carried out by trains of 6 cars.
Carris, CP, Fertagus and Transtejo Soflusa also provide special mobility offers for trips to the festival grounds.
According to organizers of Rock in Rio 2024, the festival, which will be held for the first time in Tagus Park, in the north of Parque das Nações, is expected to attract about 85,000 people a day.
The park was created to host World Youth Day events in August 2023.
This is the 10th festival in Portugal and the 20th anniversary of Rock in Rio, doors are scheduled to open at 13:00 and the last show will end at 12:00 on the Mundo stage.
