You know, determining Marcano’s future is not a priority for the Porto team. CM. The consistency of a centre-back will largely depend on other determinations in the defensive axis.
Marcano’s case is different from Pepe’s. The Spaniard earns less (€2 million gross per year) than the Portugal international (€3 million) and his salary is paid by insurance. That will remain the case until at least September, when the centre-back is expected to return to training after recovering from injury. Pepe has left at the end of his contract, Marcano is under contract until 2025 and SAD does not want to create the perception within the team that it has pushed out one of the most respected players in the dressing room.
Porto want to sign a central defender, but to do so they will have to sell David Carma. Ultimately, Marcano could become the team’s fourth central defender alongside Otavio, Fabio Cardoso and Ze Pedro.
