IL is demanding an investigation into all “obscure” decisions made in recent years regarding TAP.

IL leader Rui Rocha said this Friday that all “obscure” decisions made in recent years in TAP, whether in regards to privatization or nationalization, should be investigated.

“The Liberal Initiative advocates the transparency of any process, and therefore, if there is any doubt about any part of the process related to the decisions that have been made in recent years regarding TAP, the Liberal Initiative is always interested in full transparency. in which everything will be clarified,” Rui Rocha said at the end of the meeting with the administration of the Beatriz Angelo Hospital in Loures.

Reporters asked the IL leader about PS considering calling to Parliament the politicians responsible for the 2015 privatization of TAP by the PSD/CDS government after it was revealed that David Nieleman carried out the operation with the airline’s own money.

“We already knew that we had a nationalization process that had serious consequences for the Portuguese, namely in terms of the $3.200 million that was wasted on TAP and the grounds that justified this decision, one by one. have dropped over time, and now we are facing a situation where we understand that none of this was justified,” he said.

Add to this, Rui Rocha continued, “there were things that were not clear in the process leading up to this nationalization, and in particular in the privatization process, because everything that needs to be investigated must be investigated.”

“We want transparency, whether in public or private business, and so we don’t even want public losses to be passed on to private ones, but we also don’t want private losses to be passed on to the state. our principled position and the one that we will maintain throughout this process,” he said.

Asked about the World Youth Day stage altar spending cuts revealed this Friday, the IL leader reiterated that “all these investment decisions should always be in the best interest of the taxpayer.”

According to Rui Rocha, “common sense has not yet prevailed” because the projects were being promoted “at a price that was clearly exaggerated”, and only now was it “concluded that you can get the same utility at a lower price” .

“If common sense is coming in now, I am just sorry that it does not always prevail in these decisions and that they manifest themselves in an unreasonable way at the beginning of the processes. Fortunately, if this is the case, common sense prevailed, but we did not have to go through this whole process, which, in the end, also discredits institutions and degrades the democratic context and opens the door to populist proposals,” he defended.

The cost of the altar stage for World Youth Day in Lisbon has been reduced from €4.2 million to €2.9 million, the municipality said on Friday, stressing that “up to €25 million” of the city’s investment in the event “remains in the city.” “.
