Julian Assange pleaded guilty to conspiracy and was released

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange pleaded guilty this Wednesday to violating the US Espionage Act by disclosing confidential documents as part of an agreement with American justice.

Assange was criminally charged in federal court in the Mariana Islands, a US territory in the Pacific Ocean, with conspiracy to unlawfully obtain and disclose confidential information.

However, according to The Washington Post, the Australian defended his actions.

Julian Assange’s plane took off from the Mariana Islands to Australia.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange departed today as a “free man” from the North American territory of the Mariana Islands on a plane bound for Australia.

Charter flight VJT199 took off from Saipan, the capital of the Mariana Islands, at about 12:10 (03:10 Lisbon time), journalists from the France-Presse news agency reported.

The plane is expected to land in the Australian capital Canberra shortly before 7pm (10am in Lisbon), according to flight monitoring website Flightradar.
