In a statement issued on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the SP explained that in accordance with the current legislation, seized drugs are destroyed immediately after the Police Scientific Laboratory has carried out the relevant examinations ordered by the judicial authorities. , with only one sample kept in a safe until a final decision is made.
The destruction is carried out by burning under the supervision of a commission consisting of a magistrate from the prosecutor’s office, a member of the criminal investigation department of the judicial police and an expert from the scientific police laboratory.
According to PJ, approximately 22 tons of cocaine, 38 tons of hashish and smaller quantities of other types of drugs were seized in 2023.
