A 31-year-old man was arrested by the Judicial Police (PJ) on suspicion of qualified fraud, illegal access and money laundering, including transfers totaling 42 thousand euros, in Évora.
According to the statement of the joint venture, The investigation was based on suspicious banking transactions resulting from fraud using the so-called “CEO scam.” The scam is essentially characterized by sending emails or text messages (SMS or via apps) in which an agent, posing as someone associated in some way with the target organization, makes financial requests to employees of that same organization. which could lead them to make bank transfers to accounts associated with the attacker.
The investigations resulted in the identification of suspects, persons involved in the activities and those responsible for the receipt and embezzlement of funds, while the detainee played a corresponding role in the group, performing the functions of collecting and embezzlement of funds.
After the arrest and searches of the house, computer equipment was seized.
The detainee will be present at the first judicial interrogation for the purpose of applying coercive measures.
