A video by an American YouTuber shows Sao Paulo police saying the suspects’ deaths are being celebrated with cigars and beer.

The Military Police (MP) of Sao Paulo are embroiled in a huge controversy after a report by an American YouTuber showed agents saying that when they kill someone, they will celebrate with a party, cigars and lots of beer. The videos, filmed during a stay in Sao Paulo by 27-year-old YouTuber Gen Kimura from Portland, USA, have been viewed by more than 1.6 million Internet users until this Wednesday, June 26, and are causing huge controversy not only among the authorities. responsibility for safety, but also for public opinion.

At one point in numerous recordings made by an American YouTuber, who shows himself in a company police car wearing a corporate ballistic vest, one of the police officers tells him, always speaking in English, that the police should kill the alleged Crime is always a cause for celebration. According to this agent, when the police kill an alleged criminal, even if it is just a person who became a suspect during a routine patrol or a specific operation, the officers involved in the death are very happy.

The agent added that after an action involving the death of a suspect, the platoon involved in the operation gathers either in the battalion to which it belongs or in another place where there can be privacy and celebrates. This celebration, as detailed by a police officer who has already been identified and suspended from street work by the Secretariat of Public Security of São Paulo, the body in charge of the security forces in the state of São Paulo, is accompanied by a large amount of alcohol, mainly beer. and is topped by the use of cigars as a symbol of power and success.

In addition to this statement, which directly violates the protocols that should govern the actions of public security forces, other images are causing a stir in the press and among human rights organizations, as well as causing great confusion among military police. In one of them, a YouTuber receives and handles weapons from a corporation, which is unthinkable, since he is a civilian and, moreover, a foreigner, who could not be given weapons, because it could expose him and even himself to the threat of the very garrison, which surrounds him.

At another point, General Kimura shows himself in the modest residence of a poor family living in a favela in the north of the city of São Paulo, full of children terrified by the presence and brutality of so many police with military weapons. In this house, the YouTuber, after listening to the police report, reports that they have already saThey knew that in this modest house they would find nothing, neither criminals nor drugs, but they were going to thoroughly search both the property and the family who lived in it, in the form of pressure and intimidation, so that these and other favela residents would not help the criminals.

General Kimura’s reports last a total of about 40 minutes and were written in April, but only now came to the attention of the authorities in São Paulo and the general public, after a strong response on the Internet. São Paulo’s military police, commanded by Public Security Minister Guilherme Derrite, who was expelled from his own corporation years ago for excessive violence, and the São Paulo governor, a staunch ally of Jair Bolsonaro and former minister Tarcisio de Freitas, have been repeatedly accused of excessive brutality in its actions and this year increased the death toll during operations by 136%, accusing it of executing people behind their backs or having already overpowered people, including innocent ones.
