“At 31, if I went back, I would do everything the same. I won’t regret this change. I am sure that in the coming years I will say the same things that I say now,” Rafa said on Thursday in his presentation as Besiktas’ reinforcements for the next three seasons.
The striker, who left Benfica for the Turks on a free transfer due to his expiring contract, assumed the decision would be easy. “I’m here because I want to win titles and help the team get the trophies they deserve. That’s why I chose Besiktas. It was easy to decide. When they made the offer to me, I already had experience playing here and felt the atmosphere. The fans are crazy about football, they love football,” said the Portuguese international, who will earn €6 million a season and will also be eligible for an €8 million signing bonus.
At the presentation ceremony, Rafa made it a point to leave a promise to the fans of the Turkish team: “I promise to always work hard every day and in every game I will give my all for this team, against any opponent.”
