Operation “Influencer” wiretaps passed through the hands of 16 judges

The conversations began being intercepted as part of Operation Influencer in 2020 and have since passed through the hands of 16 judges. The wiretaps include names such as Antonio Costa, Pedro Nuno Santos, former ministers João Galamba and Duarte Cordeiro, as well as other political figures.

Visão magazine reports that the investigation was carried out during the Covid-19 period and that the wiretapping was confirmed in the first instance by 12 investigating judges, including current and replacement judges.

Three other Supreme Court judges also backed the prosecution’s appeal and decided to continue the wiretapping of the then prime minister. There was another magistrate who did not order the destruction of records of telephone conversations in which the participants were not suspects, which led to the deputy’s appeal to the Constitutional Court. The prosecutors won.
