The Judicial Police (PJ) wants to strengthen cooperation with authorities in other countries to ensure that Portugal does not become a transit point for drug trafficking and does not become a “wall” for drugs entering Europe.
Speaking to Lusa, UNCTE director Arthur Vaz highlighted the SP’s “great tradition of international cooperation” but suggested it was necessary to “go further” in the face of the “significant increase in human trafficking around the world” in recent years .
“We must strengthen our domestic capabilities, which we have been doing for many years, and also create alliances with other countries so that, in effect, we can turn the Iberian Peninsula – and Portugal – into a great wall of deterrence against the penetration of these drugs into the European space,” he said.
