A timber plant worker who suffered severe burns while fighting a fire on Wednesday has died in hospital. Wilson Cunha, 33, was helping firefighters when he was caught in the blast.
A 26-year-old firefighter from the Vila Nova de Poiares corporation also suffered burns but has since been released from hospital.
As Luis Souza, head of the Vila Nova de Poiares fire department, explained at the time, the two victims were hit by a fireball while they were putting out a blaze that broke out inside a bunker filled with sawdust.
The firefighting work took several hours, as the bunker had to be emptied gradually.
