Thousands of people gathered this Sunday in front of the Place de la République in Paris to demonstrate their opposition to the French far-right National Union, which won the first round of elections.
According to Le ParisienAs soon as the results of the first round of legislative elections were announced, at 8 p.m., and in anticipation of the intervention of the leaders of the New Popular Front, left-wing voters began to gather in the square.
With France Gall’s “Résiste” playing in the background, some protesters were moved by the idea of the far right coming to power.
“I care about my country, I care about democracy. And if the National Union comes to power… I am very afraid. We will have to mobilize and convince people,” said Lucy, one of the protesters who was at the protest.
Several photographs have already been published showing some of the protests (smashing windows and setting fires) carried out by far-right opponents in the French capital.
