European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde warned Monday that the job of fighting inflation was “not yet finished” and that “vigilance” was needed, in her opening speech at the ECB forum taking place in Sintra.
“We have found a way out of the uncertainty and have come a long way in the fight against inflation,” he acknowledged, but the job is not over. “We must remain vigilant,” he warned.
Lagarde also chose to use a quote from former football coach Alex Ferguson when talking about Portugal’s performance: “Sometimes you’re not sure, you doubt and you have to guess, and sometimes you just know” to make the point that the ECB faced uncertainty but was able to move forward with its first interest rate cut in June.
