“I think it is important to stop the growth of the far right and the National Union, because, as I wrote [nas redes sociais] “This is not a party that will bring more freedom to our country and unite people. This is my position,” said center Jules Kunde.
The election results in France showed a victory for the National Union and its allies with 33% of the vote, followed by the New Popular Front with 28%. President Emmanuel Macron’s Together for the Republic party received just 20% of the vote.
“What do I feel? I am obviously disappointed. I was disappointed to see the direction our country is heading with a party that is contrary to our values - the values of coexistence and respect – a party that seeks to divide the French,” he added.
The second round will take place on Sunday, and left and centre parties have mobilised to prevent the far right from gaining an absolute majority.
“Everything is still at stake [com a segunda volta] and we need to reach people who didn’t vote [na primeira volta]”, he concluded.
Kunde is not the first
Several French players have spoken out against Marine Le Pen’s party, with Kylian Mbappe, the Gallic party’s most popular member, being one of the most critical voices on the far right.
On the pitch, France will play out their future against Portugal on Friday at 8pm in the quarter-finals of the European Championship.
