Donald Trump wants to use a US Supreme Court ruling that granted him partial immunity from official actions he took as president to try to overturn his conviction in the payoff case against former adult film actress Stormy Daniels. The former president’s lawyers sent a letter to the judge asking for permission to file a motion to overturn the conviction, arguing that some of the evidence used at trial related to actions taken after he was elected president and therefore falls under presidential immunity.
The defense also asked that the July 11 sentencing be delayed until it is decided how the Supreme Court’s verdict will affect the conviction of Stormy Daniels. Trump was convicted in May of 34 felonies related to the cover-up of a sex scandal before the 2016 election.
The former president forged documents to hide a €110,000 payment to a former porn star so that she would not reveal a sexual encounter between them and thereby damage the presidential campaign.
