Finding someone who wasn’t born on April 25, 1974, with a Salgueiro Maia tattoo is unusual. Especially on the arm of a German sports journalist. At 44, Kai Schiller wanted to immortalize on his body the year he spent in Portugal from 2003 to 2004: “I understood what April 25 was and immediately understood the role of Salgueiro Maia in this revolution. He is a symbol of my passion for Portugal and admiration for the movement that put an end to the last fascist regime in Western Europe!”
Kai speaks almost fluent Portuguese and does not hide his admiration for Benfica. The journalist for the Hamburger Abendblatt, where he covers Euro 2024, is only afraid of the semi-final between Germany and Portugal: “If that happens, I want my team to win, my heart belongs to the Germans.”
