Norwegian cyclist Andre Drege died after a crash on the descent while returning to Austria. The athlete was 25 years old and was running for the continental team Coop-Repsol, the newspaper reports. Wheelerflites.
“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we have to announce the death of Andre Dröge. On Saturday, July 6, after a heavy fall during the descent of the Grossglockner mountain, on the fourth stage of the Tour of Austria, Andre fell and suffered serious injuries,” the race organization said in a statement on Facebook.
Andre Drøge had the best season of his career. On social media, many professional teams expressed their condolences and sympathy to the Drøge family and his Coop-Repsol teammates.
It is still unknown whether the final stage of the Tour of Austria will take place after the tragedy.
