Spain’s Pedri, who left just eight minutes into the Euro 2024 quarter-final against Germany, has suffered a knee sprain and will miss the rest of the competition.
“Following an examination carried out on national team player Pedri González, he was diagnosed with a grade 2 internal lateral sprain of the left knee,” the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) said on Friday.
At the same time, the organization adds that the midfielder will remain in the Spanish national team, which remains focused on discussing Euro 2024.
The 21-year-old Barcelona midfielder was injured in the quarter-final match against Germany, which Spain won 2-1, after a foul by Toni Kroos in the opening minutes.
In the game, the Spaniard scored through Dani Olmo in the 51st minute, and Germany still equalized through Florian Wirtz in the 89th minute, deciding to go to extra time – a period in which Mikel Merino gave Spain another advantage and sealed the result, at 119.
In the semi-finals, Spain will face France, the team that also eliminated Portugal on Friday after a 5-3 draw after extra time and penalties.
