This week, the Azores Parliament will hold an urgent debate on the impact of the fire at the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital (HDES) in Ponta Delgada, which has led to the temporary closure of the largest health facility in the archipelago.
The initiative comes from the PS party, the largest opposition party in the Azores, which demands explanations from the coalition government of PSD, SDS-PP and PPM “on all issues” related to the incident at HDES, which occurred on May 4 and which caused damages estimated at 24 million euros.
On this occasion, the regional Minister of Health, Monica Seidy, ordered the temporary closure of the hospital due to the extent of the damage, as well as the transfer of all patients hospitalized in HDES to other health facilities in the region. Madeira Continent and Portugal.
The leader of the Azorean Socialists, Francisco César, justified at a press conference the need for the right-wing executive to provide “more clarification on the safety of the health care” provided at the hospital, especially after last week’s debate on the Antena 1/Azores issue.
“The government has made a series of statements that are not true,” Francisco Cesar denounced, saying this had led to “a repeated lack of trust in the word” of the executive branch.
The parliamentary agenda for the July plenary session, the last one before the summer holidays, also includes a proposal from the Left Bloc, which intends to develop an extraordinary program for the integration of non-standard workers into the regional state administration.
This week’s agenda also includes the proposal of a government resolution on the region’s 2022 account, which highlights the deterioration of the regional public debt by 472 million euros, as well as the first supplementary budget of the Assembly, presented by the Bureau of Parliament, which strengthens the budget of the highest-level regional autonomy body by 915 thousand euros.
The status of the teaching profession in the Azores, the use of silent pyrotechnics in the archipelago and the regulation of the so-called “Chaos de Melhoras” in São Miguel (land on which houses have been built but which do not belong to the homeowners) are other topics being discussed in the Azores Parliament.
