Paulo Fonseca has been unveiled as the new coach of Milan. The Portuguese, who has signed a contract until 2027, was given a tour of the Rossoneri facilities on Monday. His host was Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a club legend who is currently an adviser.
“I know I’m joining a club that wants to win. I’ve been to the museum, I’ve seen the history and I have to say I have great ambitions to be part of it,” said Paulo Fonseca, who was also aware of the responsibility that the new position entails.
At the Italian club, Paulo Fonseca will meet Rafael Leao, who has the status of a star player for the team: “He is an important player for Milan, decisive. I expect him to be motivated and ready to play for the team. He has the opportunity to learn and improve every day,” the coach said of the winger, who was with the national team at the European Championship.
Upon his return to Italy (he coached Roma from 2019 to 2021), Jose Mourinho became a great example for Paulo Fonseca: “I am different, but I am proud that a Portuguese has won in Italy. I want to do the same, but at another club,” he said.
Paulo Fonseca will replace Stefano Pioli, who has led Milan for the past five seasons.
