Striker Ioannidis continues to be of interest to Sporting despite the Lions ruling out a deal for the Greek for Alvalade due to Panathinaikos’ financial demands.
The 25 million euros asked for the Athens emblem were considered too high by SAD. The Greeks claimed that both Bologna and Ipswich had reached that figure, and it was at this point that Sporting pulled out of the negotiations. However, the English club moved towards signing Delap (ex-Manchester City), and the Italians have yet to submit an official offer.
In Greece, Ioannidis still holds the lion’s share, and they argue that Pana can lower the cost needed to make a deal happen.
Sporting are therefore on the lookout, but now have an advantage in the negotiations. Leoninski SAD’s last offer was 18 million, and that is the amount that will be on the table if the parties talk again. What is certain is that Sporting remains on the market, looking for an alternative to Diokeres, who should once again be a benchmark in attack.
