PGR Cape Verde expresses regret over the death of Joana Marques Vidal

The Cape Verdean Ministry of Public Affairs today sent a note of condolence on the death of former Deputy Attorney General Joana Marques Vidal, recalling the contribution she made to cooperation in this sector between Portugal and Cape Verde.

The judge “will be remembered for her useful collaboration in strengthening judicial institutions. We bow with respect to her memory,” said a statement signed by Luis Landim, the Attorney General of the Republic of Cape Verde.

The note expresses “deep shock” over the death.

The same document mentions an “irreparable loss” and describes Joana Márquez Vidal as a man who “was unique in his ability to carry out his duties with integrity, wisdom and a high sense of responsibility.”

Former Attorney General of the Republic Joana Marques Vidal died on Tuesday at the age of 68 at the São João Hospital in Porto after several weeks of hospitalization in a coma.

Joana Marques Vidal was the first woman to head the Attorney General’s Office of the Portuguese Republic, between 2012 and 2018, and was succeeded in this post by Lucilia Gago, the current PGR.
